As I have said before, the Canucks just do not know how to win. For proof of this, check out the loss last night to, of all teams, the Edmonton Oilers.
Talk about embarrassing. The Oilers have been in the basement so long, they forgot what the sun looks like. If there was a team we were sure to beat, it was them. But no, our Canucks sit on their butts and lose… again.
This is just further proof of what I have said elsewhere; we just do not know how to win.
We just have to hope that we can pull it out tonight against the Wild.
Well, the winning streak continues as the Canucks beat the Calgary Flames, 4-1, with our man Roberto Luongo getting 29 saves. For Canuck’s fans, however, it is a bit frustrating, because while we like winning, it is a source of concern that there appears to be no consistent strategy.
Some nights, we win because of our defense team (most nights, actually). Some nights, they actually shoot a loy and get points. It seems like it is all ad hoc, just made up on the fly with no overall strategy or plan.
Can we keep it up? Can the Canucks’s winning ways continue, or is this just a fluke? Will we continue with our ugly wins? Even if they are ugly, at least they are wins. Only time will tell if the trend will continue (but we all hope so). However, right now, the Canucks are 8-0-1 within the Northwest Division, with the only loss a 1-0 shootout defeat against Edmonton on Wednesday. I do have to say, that is much better than I expected as late as just a week ago.
I am not sure if you can really call winning three games in a row a winning streak, but for better or worse, that is where we are. The cold hard fact is that right now, the ‘Nucks are just happy to win - things like doing it with style and grace have fallen to the side.
The awesome Roberto Luongo, goal tender par excellence, managed to save 24 and keep our fat out of the fire several times. That this was just 24 hours on the heel of the previous night’s incredible feat is only more proof of just how awesome the man really is.
I guess there is lots I could say, about how it was not a pretty win, about how we pulled it out in overtime and all that, but honestly, right now I am just happy for the win. Go Canucks!
In last night’s game, we Canuck fans were holding our breath going in. It has not been a pretty season, and honestly, now days we are at a point where we just don’t want to get our hopes up.
The game started well enough, with Calgary throwing a few pucks here and there, but in the third period they really turned the juice on, shooting 24 pucks in just that period (which, by the way, is as many in that one period as we Canucks shot the WHOLE NIGHT!). Luckily, Our man Roberto Luongo was in the net, serving as a brick wall. The awesome Luongo managed to save 36 for the night, helping us get ourselves a much needed victory.
We still are not shooting enough. Generally speaking, you want to shoot more, than less. It almost seems like out current strategy is “Not to lose”.
In any event, we are all happy Canucks tonight. I just hope we can keep it up.
Well, it is about time. After the loss streak we thought would never end, the Canucks finally pulled one out of the hat and managed to triumph over the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3.
Our man Roberto Luongo, quite possibly the best goalie in the world (in my humble opinion, anyway), managed to get 30 saves for the night. We still are just not being aggressive enough with our shooting, shooting 10 less shots then the Colorado Avalanche.
“We’re a good team, and we came in here and beat a team that is tough at home,” Luongo said. “It’s a big confidence builder for us. We have a lot of divisional games this month, and we have to get as many games as we can.”
Agreed. This was a good victory for the Canucks, beating a tough team at home. All we can hope is that it gives the Canucks a much needed shot of confidence as we move forward and try to salvage what is left of the season.
Give me a frickin break. How much longer do we drink the Canuck Kool-aid? They are sucking major this year; it is just time to face facts.
We went without a goal last night. Against Nashville, for crying out loud. Nashville! The team whose motto is “we suck more than the Canucks do!”.
Apparently, the Nuck’s offense just has decided they won’t even try any more. No need to score goals; hell, if you do, we still lose, and this way, you don’t have to work as hard. Who can blame them? The fans were actually booing the Nucks from the stands.
Even the object of our affection Roberto Luongo cannot save this team. If anything, they are rubbing off on him.
While we are waiting for the Canucks to lose to Nashville this Thursday, I thought it might be fun to take a break from the pressure of the game and kick back and relax. In my searching, I found this video of a commercial for NHL Center Ice, featuring our man, Roberto Luongo.
Well, here we go. Just when I thought they had it right… The Canucks fell to defeat against the Detroit RedWings, again.
We are 12 games into the season, and we are making stupid mistakes. Yes, if you watched the game you know we lost a goal we thought we had, but the bigger question is why we were so in need of that goal. Yes, the shooting was up, but still nothing to brag about, and we are still getting too many penalties.
In short, with the exception of Roberto Luongo and maybe two others, The Canucks don’t have a clue as to what in the heck they are doing. It is like they are making it up as they go along.
Well, we have a shot break before we play Nashville, which has the honor of being one of the very few teams in the NHL with a lowers winning percentage than the Canucks. Maybe the break will help us, or even better, maybe we could find some hockey players between now and then.
Well, it is about time! The Vancouver Canucks, current home of our man Roberto Luongo, finally got their head out of their butts and decided to actually try to make some goals. Like I said last time, the problem the Canucks had was that they simply were not shooting. If you don’t shoot, you don’t get points. No one gives you any because you showed up for the game with your skates on right.
In case you have been in a cave, Roberto Luongo and the Canucks managed to kick some Capital butt, with a final score of 3-2. Yes, it is good to win, and Roberto himself said “I thought we skated well tonight and we played a good tight game defensively. Most of the shots for the first 50 minutes were on the perimeter, and we were keeping guys to the outside and taking the rebounds. It was easy for me to do my job and we got three goals early.”
For all that, the Canucks still have a way to go. Yes, they managed to shoot 26, but they were still out shot by the Capitals, who shot 28. Half of those 26 shots were shot by the defense and of the goals made, none were the result of overarching strategy, they were just taking advantage of ad-hoc opportunities. But heck, at this point in the game, I am happy for any win at all.
OK. The good news is the Canucks and our man Roberto Luongo should win tonight against the Capitals. The Canucks have beaten them the last four times we faced them and seven of the last nine times. The last nine times Luongo has faced the Capitals, his team has won (only once was that with the Canucks, though).
And that, my friends, is the point. After the awesome 36 goal stopping game he played against the Redwings, we have no doubt that Roberto Luongo is ready to play them. But, are the rest of the Canucks?
When you break down the numbers, you see that we are averaging just a hair over five shots per period. Five. In a period. To put that in perspective, the amazing Roberto Luongo stopped sixteen (16!) shots in just the second period of the Redwing game. In other words, the Redwings tried to score three times as many times in that period than the Canucks did.
If the team you are playing tries to score three times more than you, eventually they will. It is simple math. I know a lot of you have been upset about my being critical of the Canucks, you have not liked my saying the Canucks are lazy, you have not liked that I said they are not up to Roberto’s level of play. Honestly, though, after looking at the numbers, I don’t see how you can come to any other conclusion.
