Numbers Don’t Lie - Canucks Drool, Roberto Rules
Oct 26th, 2007

And that, my friends, is the point. After the awesome 36 goal stopping game he played against the Redwings, we have no doubt that Roberto Luongo is ready to play them. But, are the rest of the Canucks?
When you break down the numbers, you see that we are averaging just a hair over five shots per period. Five. In a period. To put that in perspective, the amazing Roberto Luongo stopped sixteen (16!) shots in just the second period of the Redwing game. In other words, the Redwings tried to score three times as many times in that period than the Canucks did.
If the team you are playing tries to score three times more than you, eventually they will. It is simple math. I know a lot of you have been upset about my being critical of the Canucks, you have not liked my saying the Canucks are lazy, you have not liked that I said they are not up to Roberto’s level of play. Honestly, though, after looking at the numbers, I don’t see how you can come to any other conclusion.
